Since its inception more than two decades ago, Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been pitched as one of the main disruptors to the construction industry. However, as more engineers and contractors embraced BIM, the focus has shifted from generating information rich representations to 3D geometrical replicas. BIM should play a much larger role within our organizations, not only by hosting information within the model, but also by enabling the connection of multiple data sources already in place within our organizations. The result is not a revolution in the way construction is done, but rather a major evolution towards a more connected future.
